My old man long gone but still here

As I am driving to work ( It’s just another day, right? ), I am listening to Pink Floyd The Wall ( Great work from those dudes by the way ). One of the songs lyrics goes like this… “Daddy what you leave behind for me?”……. I kept on driving with my mind spacing out to places and now I wonder how did I manage to get to work safely? Maybe I did run a couple of red lights and I’ve just got lucky ( didn’t killed no one or,  get killed or had a ticket ). Anyhow, what did my father left behind for me?. He passed 13 years ago. It has been a while and still feels like he is still around. He did have a strong personality and always made an impression on pretty much everyone. He was an entrepreneur in so many ways. He worked in several disciplines and was always very successful. Success is kind of a relative term and usually it gets  understood as wealth. Well, that was the case with him. He started from zero with no education and yet managed to develop businesses in different activities. Just to set the baseline here, he started sweeping the sidewalk of a butcher shop when he was a desperate and hungry little kid. Eventually  he got to own and run that shop so successfully that he became wealthy enough to explore other lines of work. I could write stories but the point is, even though he had to deal with all kind of challenges during his life, I don’t recall ever ( and I mean ever ) to hear him say something like “I don’t feel like working today”, “I don’t want to do that”, “No, that’s not my problem”….. he was always booted up to get the job done. So, what did my dad leave behind for me? Ethics, work, discipline, willingness to do whatever it takes, sense of adventure, loyalty… to mention just few things. He was a great man and I am very proud to say it. That’s probably the most valuable thing that he left behind for me.
